It
was a beautiful Saturday morning of March 21, 1992 when I, together with two classmates, were on our way to Lian, Batangas
to gather some data for our thesis. Our two-hour travel from Manila to Tagaytay
City alone proved to be all right since we had only experienced minimal traffic.
Everything
turned out to be fine then until the front tire at the driver's side of the car burst flat.
I was the driver in the wheel and was trying to stay as calm as possible. Even
my companions tried to do the same thing. I prayed to the Lord for a miracle
that all of us aboard would be safe and alive as well. Meanwhile, the road ahead
of us was taking a turn and I had no choice but to hit the brakes and swerve the wheel to the left at a speed of 110 kph. The car jumped off from the ground and turned turtle sideways. Everything was spinning from that moment as I lay helplessly into deep sleep.
I
heard and saw our school chaplain giving his sermons. It wasn't Sunday nor the
afternoon masses at school that one could think of but it was our class retreat. Everyone
in the room including myself was listening and had been meditating of what we had done in the past. Yes, it was really a good and memorable retreat.
A
little while, I was alone in darkness. I could feel the coolness of the wind
blowing at my face as I continued on to meditate. Then I saw a bright light at
a distant. The light was so pure and white and it shined on me with its gentle
and non-glaring rays. I'd like to approach it and to touch it but something whispered
me to go back - that it wasn't yet the right time. I tried to get hold on to
my senses and remembered that I had left something behind - my two classmates and my thesis.
The
sound of the car's engine seemed to be audible and clear right now as I woke up to find myself a passenger of another car. I was a bit surprised and tried to get up but my classmate was there beside me and
assured me that everything would be fine. I was surprised also that someone placed
a rosary around my neck. My classmate narrated to me a little bit of what I'd
missed. He mentioned that I was out cold for 15 minutes. That's funny... it seemed to me to be just 5 minutes! Further,
there was something that I couldn't explain - I never felt such indescribable happiness and peace within me before. It's like all of my problems and worries in life were cleansed and washed away. I then thank the Lord that He brought all of us to safety and continued to rest as
we were brought to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
